New snow and wind slabs are to be critically assessed.
A very large quantity of fresh snow and the sometimes large wind slabs will become increasingly prone to triggering in all aspects and generally at intermediate and high altitudes. Avalanches can in many places be released by small loads or triggered naturally. As the snowfall becomes more intense the prevalence and size of the avalanche prone locations will increase as the day progresses.
Gliding avalanches are also to be expected at any time. Sometimes these are medium-sized.
Backcountry touring and other off-piste activities call for defensive route selection.
