Gliding snow

2000m

Dry and moist snow slides and gliding avalanches are possible in isolated cases.
As the temperature drops a generally favourable avalanche situation will prevail. In particular very steep shady slopes as well as near-ridge sunny slopes: As a consequence of the new snow only isolated small dry snow slides are possible. In addition very occasional small and, in isolated cases, medium-sized gliding avalanches are possible.
Snowpack
>
Over a wide area up to 2 cm of snow, and even more in some localities, fell in the past few hours above approximately 2000 m. The new snow is lying on a crust in all aspects. This snow is bonding poorly with the old snowpack in particular on very steep shady slopes above approximately 2000 m. Sunny slopes: The surface of the snowpack will freeze to form a strong crust and will soften during the day. Shady slopes: In many places there is a danger of falling on the hard snow surface. All aspects and intermediate and high altitudes: Faceted weak layers exist in the centre of the old snowpack in particular in areas where the snow cover is rather shallow.
Above approximately 2000 m there are 100 to 200 cm of snow, and even more in some localities. Snow depths vary greatly at elevated altitudes, depending on the infuence of the wind.
Tendency
Some snow will fall on Monday. Slight increase in danger of dry avalanches as a consequence of new snow and wind.
