Fresh wind slabs require caution. Moist snow slides as the day progresses.
As a consequence of new snow and a moderate to strong wind from northwesterly directions, sometimes deep wind slabs formed since Saturday in particular on north, east and south facing slopes. This snow and in particular the wind slabs can be released in some cases. Sometimes the avalanches are medium-sized. The avalanche prone locations are to be found adjacent to ridgelines and in shady places that are protected from the wind. At elevated altitudes the avalanche prone locations are more prevalent and larger.
As a consequence of warming during the day and solar radiation more frequent moist snow slides are to be expected as the day progresses, even medium-sized ones.
Backcountry touring and other off-piste activities call for meticulous route selection. Apart from the danger of being buried, restraint should be exercised as well in view of the danger of avalanches sweeping people along and giving rise to falls.

Snowpack

Up to 30 cm of snow, and even more in some localities, has fallen since Saturday above approximately 1500 m. The sometimes strong wind has transported the new snow significantly. This snow and in particular the wind slabs are lying on a crust in particular on wind-protected shady slopes. As a consequence of mild temperatures and low stratus the snowpack settled on Monday. Sunshine and high temperatures will give rise on Tuesday to unfavourable bonding of the snowpack in some cases in particular on wind-loaded slopes at high altitude. These weather conditions will cause a gradual detrimental transformation of the snowpack as the day progresses in particular on very steep sunny slopes.
On shady slopes at high altitude there are 20 to 60 cm of snow, and even more in some localities. At low altitude from a snow sport perspective, in most cases insufficient snow is lying.
