Avalanche Problem
Wind slab
2400m
Wind slabs at high altitude.
The fresh and older wind slabs of the last few days have settled a little in all aspects. They can still be released on wind-protected shady slopes above approximately 2400 m. The avalanches are rather small but can be released easily by a single winter sport participant. At the southern and western borders of Aran the avalanche prone locations are a little more prevalent. As a consequence of a gathering strong southwesterly wind, further wind slabs will form from the middle of the day in particular adjacent to ridgelines on north and east facing slopes.
In addition the danger of gliding avalanches and moist snow slides will increase as the day progresses.

Snowpack
>
Shady slopes: The snowpack is dry; its surface consists of faceted crystals. The high humditiy will give rise as the day progresses to increasing moistening of the snowpack on sunny slopes.
Above approximately 2000 m there are 20 to 30 cm of snow, and even more in some localities. Snow depths vary greatly, depending on the infuence of the wind. At low altitude from a snow sport perspective, insufficient snow is lying.

Tendency
As a consequence of new snow and a strong southerly wind, easily released wind slabs will form on Friday. Significant increase in danger of dry avalanches.
