Gliding snow

A great many medium-sized and, in isolated cases, large moist slab avalanches are to be expected as a consequence of the rain.
As the day progresses as a consequence of the rain there will be a rapid increase in the danger of moist avalanches to level 3 (considerable). On shady slopes numerous medium-sized to large moist slab avalanches are to be expected below approximately 2400 m. On grassy slopes numerous medium-sized and, in isolated cases, large gliding avalanches are to be expected in all altitude zones. Already in the early morning, individual, then as a consequence of the rain more, and in some cases even medium-sized, moist snow slides are to be expected.
In addition the fresh and older wind slabs adjacent to ridgelines and at elevated altitudes are prone to triggering in isolated cases.
The conditions are unfavourable for ski touring, freeriding and snowshoe hiking in steep terrain. The runout zones of large avalanches are to be treated with caution as well.
Snowpack
>
Up to high altitudes rain will fall on Thursday in particular in the southern half of Aran. The wind will be strong to storm force adjacent to ridgelines.
Shady slopes: Distinct weak layers exist in the bottom section of the old snowpack in particular in places that are protected from the wind.
Tendency
Thursday: Gradual decrease in danger of wet and gliding avalanches as a consequence of the ceasing of precipitation.
