Gliding snow

Wind slab

2200m

Gliding snow requires caution. Wind slabs at elevated altitudes. Wet snow slides as the day progresses.
Some fresh snow and in particular the sometimes deep wind slabs can still be released in some cases on very steep shady slopes and at high altitude. The more recent wind slabs are very small. In some places they will increase in size moderately as the day progresses. The old wind slabs can still be released in some cases. In isolated cases these are medium-sized.
Sunny slopes and very steep grassy slopes: As a consequence of warming during the day and solar radiation small and medium-sized gliding avalanches and wet snow slides are to be expected. Sometimes the gliding avalanches are large.
Backcountry touring and other off-piste activities call for meticulous route selection. Areas with glide cracks are to be avoided.

Snowpack
>
Some snow fell on Saturday in some localities. The sometimes moderate wind has transported some snow.
Shady slopes: Faceted weak layers exist in the top section of the snowpack. In its middle, the snowpack is well consolidated. Towards its base, the snowpack is weak.
Sunny slopes as well as areas close to the tree line: Sunshine and high temperatures will give rise as the day progresses to increasing moistening of the snowpack.
At intermediate altitudes there are 150 to 200 cm of snow, and even more in some localities.

Tendency
Until Tuesday the wind will be moderate. In particular at high altitude the wind slabs will increase in size moderately. The danger of gliding avalanches and moist snow slides will not decrease for the time being.
